BERES HAMMOND tops Jamaica’s honours list

The Jamaican government has awarded BERES HAMMOND the Order of Jamaica for his exceptional and dedicated contribution to the Jamaican music industry.

The government announced its annual National Honours and Awards earlier this week.

As reported in the Jamaica Observer, governor general Sir Patrick Allen will hand out the country’s fourth highest honour on 21 October at King's House.


TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM selects ‘England playlist’

Daddy Ad and Earl Gateshead from TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM have selected their favourite Jamaican songs that have influenced English ska and reggae acts for The Guardian.

According to the feature, “From the Specials in Coventry to Massive Attack in Bristol, England has long had a love affair with Jamaican music.”


DENNIS BROWN blue plaque unveiling

The ‎"Crown Prince of Reggae" DENNIS BROWN has been honoured in the UK with the unveiling of a ‘blue plaque’ in Harlesden, North West London.

The plaque was installed on 7 April outside the former home of the legendary reggae singer with Jak Beula, Carroll Thompson, Delroy Washington, the High Commissioner for Jamaica and members of the Brown family in attendance.


DENNIS BROWN gets ‘blue plaque’ honour in the UK

The late reggae legend DENNIS BROWN will be honoured with a ‘blue plaque’ next month at the London home where he once lived.

The “crown prince of reggae” will be recognised by the Nubian Jak Community Trust who will unveil the plaque on Hazeldean Road in Harlesden, North West London.

Yvonne Brown has received a posthumous award for her late husband and ‘Crown Prince of Reggae’ DENNIS BROWN.

BROWN topped the honours list of entertainers yesterday with an Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) for his contribution to Jamaican music.


Jamaica honours DENNIS BROWN with national award

Jamaica’s governor general has announced DENNIS EMMANUEL BROWN will posthumously receive a national award later this year.

On the 49th anniversary of Jamaican independence (6 August 1962) BROWN has topped the entertainment field alongside reggae singers MILLIE SMALL and HIGHLAND "DOBBY" DOBSON.

BROWN, who died in 1999, will be awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) for his contribution to the Jamaican music industry.


BBC reggae show: episode three now available

The third instalment of DAVID RODIGAN’s new ten-part reggae series for BBC Radio 2 is now available.

This week the British DJ plays lovers rock anthem “Silly Games” by JANET KAY, alongside 1960s Jamaican beach music from JOHN HOLT and THE PARAGONS, as well as roots-rock-reggae anthems by BURNING SPEAR and DENNIS BROWN.
