TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM selects Caribbean playlist

Earl Gateshead and Daddy Ad of TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM have selected their top ‘summer in the Caribbean’ tracks for The Guardian.

The strictly vinyl mix tries to embrace the truth about summer in the Caribbean, its diversity and the depth of the cultures and experiences that have shaped this tropical paradise.

Bestival reveals Reggae Roots stage

The organisers of the UK’s Bestival have announced a brand new stage for the 2014 event called Reggae Roots.

The new stage will be dedicated to the myriad flavours of reggae from ska, rocksteady and ragga to dub, dancehall and junglist riddims.

Bestival regulars REGGAE ROAST, TAYO and JIM8TRACK will be residents throughout the weekend.

Final sound system additions to Bestival line-up revealed

The final additions for the 10th Bestival can now be revealed including DIGITAL SOUNDBOY SOUND SYSTEM, SWAMP and TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM.

DIGITAL SOUNDBOY will feature SHY FX, B.TRAITS, BREAKAGE, DISMANTLE, STAMINA, LX ONE and JUMA MC.

Wray & Nephew to host Jamaica Rum Tings in London

Iconic white rum Wray & Nephew will next month host the Jamaica Rum Tings takeover of the Britannia pub in East London.

The ‘Wray’s Tavern’ event takes place on 3 August for one day only in the build-up to Jamaican independence day on 6 August.

TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM selects ‘England playlist’

Daddy Ad and Earl Gateshead from TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM have selected their favourite Jamaican songs that have influenced English ska and reggae acts for The Guardian.

According to the feature, “From the Specials in Coventry to Massive Attack in Bristol, England has long had a love affair with Jamaican music.”

Love Saves Sunday announced in Bristol: DJ DEREK, MS DYNAMITE & TROJAN SOUND

Love Saves The Day Festival has announced a sister event called Love Saves Sunday, which will now take place on 26 May.

The new show, conceived by the people behind Glastonbury's WOW stage ‘See No Evil’ and one half of the team behind In:Motion series, takes place at Bristol's Castle Park over the bank holiday weekend.

Selectors DADDY AD and EARL GATESHEAD of London-based TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM have revealed to The Guardian their top 10 tracks.

The pair “empty the contents of their psychic record bag” disclosing the track they’ll be opening their next set with, the track to rescue a dancefloor and the one that currently gets the most rewinds.

THTC launch party in Bristol: TROJAN SOUND, SERIAL KILLAZ, REGGAE ROAST & more

Eco clothing label The Hemp Trading Company (THTC) is putting on a launch party in Bristol next month featuring TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM, SERIAL KILLAZ and REGGAE ROAST.

The ‘reggae vs jungle’ night takes place at Blue Mountain on 24 November from 10pm until 6am.

TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS live at the 100 Club in London

Constantly touring Jamaican band TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS performed at the legendary 100 Club this week (8 August) as part of the Converse Represent series of shows.

The once in a lifetime gig was about as rammed as it could possibly get and with the air con seemingly packing up mid-show, the bands throughout the night were generating uncomfortable levels of heat.

London promoters Soundcrash have announced the details of an all-dayer at The Oval Space in Hackney, East London.

At the top of the 12-hour bill is TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM (live-on stage from 10pm) alongside DJ VADIM and ANCHORSONG.
