JUNIOR MURVIN passes away in Jamaica

Jamaican reggae singer JUNIOR MURVIN passed away this morning (2 December) at the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland, Jamaica.

According to the Jamaica Observer the 67-year old singer, real name Murvin Smith, was suffering from advanced stage diabetes at the time of his death.


Latest London Intl Ska Fest 2014 addition: THE BIONIC RATS

The organisers behind the London International Ska Festival have confirmed THE BIONIC RATS as the latest addition to the 2014 line-up.

THE BIONIC RATS formed out of the ashes of Dublin reggae outfit KINGSATIVA and mix the rhythms of ska, 2Tone, reggae and rocksteady into their own “special brew of Jamaican heart and Irish soul”.

The organisers behind the London International Ska Festival have revealed the initial artists for the 2014 event, including Jamaican legends DERRICK MORGAN and JUNIOR MURVIN (performing Police & Thieves), along with THE LIPTONES from Sweden.


Vintage Festival cancelled next month: added to Wilderness 2012

The Vintage Festival, which was due to take place from 13-15 July at the Boughton Estate in Northamptonshire, has been cancelled. 

The festival was set to include BUSTER SHUFFLE, HOLLIE COOK, JUNIOR MURVIN, DON LETTS, PHOENIX CITY ALL-STARS and THE DELEGATORS, among many others, but low sales and the weather prevented it going ahead.


Jamaica 50 Festival in London: all-star line-up revealed

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence from the UK, London’s IndigO2 will play host to the Jamaica 50 Festival this summer.

The 11-day event is set to feature an eclectic mix of reggae artists from YELLOWMAN to GYPTIAN, DAMIAN MARLEY to LUCIANO, and SLY AND ROBBIE to BIG YOUTH.
