Guardian puts out dancehall and soca playlist

Jamaican acts KABAKA PYRAMID and LADY SAW are among the featured artists on this month’s Guardian reggae playlist.

The reggae and dancehall playlist, selected by Erin MacLeod, also features two big soca tracks by PETER RAM and IMANI.

Court date set for LADY SAW appeal

Reggae singer LADY SAW, real name Marion Hall, will appear at Jamaica’s Court of Appeal on 25 May to overturn a default judgement.

Hall is trying to appeal a default judgement entered against her for injuries caused to Dorothy Wilson who was attacked by dogs at her St Andrew home in 2009.

In 2012 Justice Leighton Pusey awarded Wilson JM$1.5m during an assessment of damages at the Supreme Court.

LADY SAW slams SNOOP LION in Gleaner interview

Jamaican reggae singer LADY SAW has called out SNOOP LION, insisting overseas acts are taking over dancehall and reggae music.

In an interview with the Jamaica Gleaner the queen of dancehall was critical of the rapper’s dabbling into reggae.

"Snoop, mi like yuh as a rapper, but low dancehall ting, low reggae ting…mi no like yuh as no Snoop Lion. Weh yuh get lion from? Not your business, leave it alone,” she said.

LADY SAW and LSHAWNA announce winter shows: Manchester, Birmingham & Bristol

Live from Jamaica LADY SAW and LSHAWNA will be in the UK this winter for a three-night run of shows taking in Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

The ‘Girl On Top – Winter Fest 2012’ tour kicks off at the Cheshire Lounge near Manchester; moving on to the Tower Ballroom in Birmingham; and then winding up with a big show at the Malcolm X Centre in Bristol.

VP Records and Greensleeves Records have released the 20th edition of the annual reggae compilation Reggae Gold as a special two-disc set including new and old hits from SEAN PAUL, POPCAAN, KONSHENS, BUSY SIGNAL and DAMIAN MARLEY.
