Bristol reggae legend passes away

Bristol reggae musician, producer and mentor MIKEY [TAYLOR-HALL] has passed away after a long battle with poor health, reports Reggae Archive Records.

MIKEY was the original keyboard player with BLACK ROOTS and over the years has been responsible for virtually all the music from JASHWHA MOSES. He co-wrote, engineered and produced his new album, The Rising, which is due out on 22 June.

Live review: BLACK ROOTS at VegFest Bristol

BLACK ROOTS stormed Europe’s biggest vegetarian food festival last month with their unique blend of deep roots and conscious reggae.

This was the group’s first hometown show since their Malcolm X show in November 2012 and a large audience was out in force for the traditional Sunday ‘reggae day’ (25 May) at the festival.

Bristol roots reggae collective BLACK ROOTS will play their first London show since 2011 at The Flyover next month.

The Portobello gig takes place on 29 March from 9pm until 2am, with tickets priced at £10.

Full details revealed for Bristol Reggae Explosion Live CD/DVD

Bristol Archive Records is set to release ‘The Bristol Reggae Explosion Live 2012’ on 3 June with all profits donated to the St. Paul’s Carnival (6 July).

The 17-track CD and 11-track DVD, which will also be available as digital downloads, feature performances from various artists from the Bristol reggae scene.

LUCIANO lines up Bristol show with MAXI PRIEST & BLACK ROOTS

Jamaican reggae singer LUCIANO will headline the O2 Academy in Bristol in May with support from MAXI PRIEST and BLACK ROOTS.

The show takes place on 4 May and tickets go on sale tomorrow (25 January) from 9am, expected to be priced at £25.

BLACK ROOTS deliver hit hometown show: Live at Malcolm X Centre

One of the best reggae bands from the 1980s, BLACK ROOTS, performed on home turf on Saturday night (10 November) with an official album launch gig in St Pauls.

The Malcolm X Centre show was the band’s chance to translate their new record On The Ground to the stage and prove their relevance in a much-changed musical landscape since their inception in 1979.

For its first venture into reggae Sugar Shack has teamed up with AMJ DUB COLLECTIVE to release Sound History Volume One.

Ujima Radio 98FM has partnered with Bristol Archive Records and Sugar Shack Records to promote their releases, artists and music.

Bristol roots reggae singer JASHWHA MOSES has lined up a long-overdue headline performance at the Fleece in Bristol.

MOSES will be performing live on 29 June alongside THE RAS BAND with support from “a surprise special guest” and PAPA ROOTS SOUND SYSTEM.

Bristol-based Sugar Shack Records has been rebranded and launched as a label specialising in releasing new British reggae music.
