New reggae playlist on The Guardian

The Guardian website has put out its latest reggae, dancehall and soca playlist featuring new tracks from dancehall artist BUSY SIGNAL, OMI and BOOGAT.

VP Records’ Strictly The Best series hits 50

Independent reggae label VP Records will shortly put out the latest volume in its Strictly The Best compilation album series.

According to the Jamaica Observer, on 25 November VP will release volumes 50 and 51 of the series.

MAJOR LAZER’s Free the Universe out tomorrow; new video for ‘Watch Out For This (Bumaye)’

The second full-length album by MAJOR LAZER, Free the Universe, is set for release tomorrow (15 April).

The new record, out on Mad Decent, features appearances by a host of Jamaican artists including ELEPHANT MAN, VYBZ KARTEL and BUSY SIGNAL, among many others.

Producer SHANE BROWN to co-manage TARRUS RILEY

Jamaican record producer SHANE BROWN of Juke Boxx Jamaica has joined saxophonist DEAN FRASER as core members of TARRUS RILEY's management.

Brown, the former manager of BUSY SIGNAL and current co-manager of ROMAIN VIRGO, inked the deal to take RILEY to the next level.

Jamaican reggae star BUSY SIGNAL held a big media event this week (21 November) in Kingston just days after being released from a Minnesota prison in the US.

Perhaps the most exciting piece of news from the event came from Italian promoter Carlo Gullato who said BUSY SIGNAL has already been booked to perform 30 shows in Europe next summer.

BUSY SIGNAL to walk free today

Jamaican reggae artist BUSY SIGNAL is expected to walk free today (17 November) after serving two months in a US prison.

It is not clear at this point whether he will immediately return to Jamaica on his release, but will have up to 45 days before making the journey back.

Jamaican reggae singer BUSY SIGNAL has been sentenced in a US court to six months' imprisonment, meaning he will be out of jail in November having already served four months behind bars.

BUSY SIGNAL's official Twitter account tweeted on Friday: "Busy will be out November! Tell the world!"

BUSY SIGNAL pleads ‘not guilty’ in Minnesota court

Jamaican musician BUSY SIGNAL, real name Glendale Gordon, has pleaded “not guilty” to one count of failure to appear in court and stands accused of fleeing the US to avoid a drugs trial 10 years ago.

Following his extradition to the US last week the singer answered to the charge in a Minnesota court on Monday (25 June) before the presiding judge ordered him detained, pending trial.

VP Records and Greensleeves Records have released the 20th edition of the annual reggae compilation Reggae Gold as a special two-disc set including new and old hits from SEAN PAUL, POPCAAN, KONSHENS, BUSY SIGNAL and DAMIAN MARLEY.

BUSY SIGNAL extradited to the US

Jamaican dancehall artist BUSY SIGNAL has been extradited to the US to face criminal charges in the state of Minnesota.

As reported in the Jamaica Gleaner the singer, whose real name is Glendale Gordon, was flown out of the island “under heavy police custody” shortly after 10am [local time].

A team of US marshals arrived in Jamaica on 18 June for Gordon, who recently waived his right to challenge extradition proceedings.

BUSY SIGNAL denied bail: referred to as “fugitive from justice”

Dancehall artist BUSY SIGNAL has been denied bail after appearing in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in Jamaica.

As reported in the Jamaica Observer, magistrate Stephanie Haisley said he was a fugitive from justice and she had to take that into consideration.

The long-running Uppsala Reggae Festival in Sweden has been canned for 2012, however the promoters do have alternative plans to help fill the void.

Jamaican musician BUSY SIGNAL will officially release his new album Reggae Music Again on 23 April through VP Records.

He has also been nominated as a finalist in the category of ‘Best International Male Artist’ at the British Reggae Industry Awards (BRIA), alongside the likes of DAMIAN MARLEY, POPCAAN and ALBOROSIE, among others.

New BUSY SIGNAL album in the works

Jamaican artist Reanno Gordon, better known as BUSY SIGNAL, is expected to drop a new reggae album in February.

His manager, Shane Brown, told the Jamaica Star: "Busy is doing a 100 per cent reggae album and Jamaican radio stations throw away reggae music. Collectively, we are in the studio working on this album and finishing Romain's (Romain Virgo) album too; both of which are due early next year."
