LEGEND tribute band plans UK shows

Top BOB MARLEY tribute act LEGEND has started lining up UK dates for later this year.

The band, led by Michael Anton Phillips, features members who have worked with reggae greats such as THE MIGHTY DIAMONDS, THE ORIGINAL WAILERS and DENNIS BROWN.

LEGEND's two-hour show covers the best of BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS.


Man Booker Prize winning novel inspired by reggae

Jamaican author Marlon James has won the Man Booker Prize 2015 with ‘A Brief History of Seven Killings’ – a novel he says was inspired by reggae music.

James told the BBC a huge part of his third novel had been inspired by reggae:

“The reggae singers Bob Marley and Peter Tosh were the first to recognise that the voice coming out our mouths was a legitimate voice for fiction and poetry,” he said.

LEGEND, a seven piece band dedicated to the life and music of the late great BOB MARLEY, has lined up several UK shows in the coming months.


Baltimore to host BOB MARLEY musical premiere

A new musical about BOB MARLEY will make its world premiere next year in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Center Stage in Baltimore, in collaboration with New York's Public Theater, revealed the ‘Marley’ premiere - a musical about the Jamaican reggae star, written and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah - would take place next year.



Reggae musician JULIAN MARLEY has been revealed as the replacement for TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS at the BoomTown Fair next month.

In addition, two “top notch reggae super stars” have been confirmed as the secret headliners for the new Lion’s Den Temple.

Jamaican music legend JIMMY CLIFF has walked away with the ‘Best Reggae Album’ Grammy Award for his latest record Rebirth, which is out on UMe/Sunpower.


Date set for ZIGGY MARLEY ‘In Concert’ live album

Jamaican musician ZIGGY MARLEY will release his new live album Ziggy Marley In Concert on 18 December via iTunes.

You can pre-order the new album, out on Tuff Gong Worldwide, from the official ZIGGY MARLEY website.

The album was recorded on his Wild and Free world tour 2012 and features tracks off his most recent studio record as well as BOB MARLEY songs “Is This Love” and “War”.


ASTON BARRETT honoured with Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award

WAILERS bassist ASTON “FAMILY MANY” BARRETT has been given a lifetime achievement award by Bass Player magazine.

The legendary bass player took home the award in recognition for a lifetime of “outstanding contributions to the art, craft and profession of bass playing”.

A special presentation for the award took place on 20 October at the Key Club in Los Angeles.


BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS honoured in London with ‘blue plaque’

The BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS blue plaque unveiling ceremony finally took place on Saturday (8 September) in Neasden, North West London.

Councillor Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said how symbolic the ceremony was in recognising the African-Caribbean contribution to the economy. Michael Adeyeye, the mayor of Brent, added that he considered it an honour to be presiding over such a momentous event.


Date set for BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS ‘blue plaque’ event in London

FORM UK, the Federation Of Reggae Music, has announced the date and location for the upcoming BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS heritage ‘blue plaque’ ceremony in London.

The commemorative plaque will be unveiled at 15 The Circle in Neasden NW2 7QR on 8 September from 3pm.

THE WAILERS first lived in the Borough of Brent when they came to the UK in 1972.

MARLEY film to hit cinemas next month; One Love Party lined up in Bristol

The eagerly anticipated documentary about reggae legend BOB MARLEY, entitled ‘Marley’, will hit cinemas worldwide from 20 April.

To celebrate the opening weekend of the film, the Watershed in Bristol will be hosting a special One Love Party to follow the evening show on 21 April.


STEPHEN MARLEY dismisses Forbes article

Jamaican musician STEPHEN MARLEY has come out against a recent article in Forbes Magazine which questioned whether the heirs to the BOB MARLEY estate were destroying the legacy of the late artist.

Date set for new BOB MARLEY film premiere; US distribution rights agreed

The first ever authorised documentary on BOB MARLEY’s life, entitled ‘Marley’, will premiere later this month at the 62nd International Film Festival (9-19 Feb.) in Berlin.

BOB MARLEY’s family has also granted permission for VH1 and Magnolia Pictures to distribute the film in the US, expected to hit theatres from April.


Live footage of MACKA B at Bath Komedia: BOB MARLEY birthday show

UK reggae artist MACKA B, backed by THE ROOTS RAGGA BAND, performed last night (6 February) at the Bath Komedia as part of a BOB MARLEY birthday celebration.

Brainwave Productions put on the Westcountry show that also featured local band LARGO EMBARGO and the MESSENJAH YOUTHS sound system.
