LINTON KWESI JOHNSON lines up London performance

Dub poet LINTON KWESI JOHNSON will perform at a special event in London next month alongside LAWRENCE SCOTT and TANIKA GUPTA.

The evening takes place on 17 October at St John's Church in Archway, London.

Tickets cost £7 in advance.

Fans will have the rare opportunity of hearing him speak his poetry in his glorious, rich, musical, iconic voice.


MARCIA GRIFFITHS awarded Jamaican honour

Queen of reggae MARCIA GRIFFITHS has been given a national award, the Order of Distinction in the rank of commander, at a ceremony in Jamaica.

The awards ceremony took place at Kings House, St Andrew, on National Heroes Day (20 October).

The prestigious award comes as the singer celebrates 50 years in the music industry.


MARCIA GRIFFITHS to get top Jamaican honour

Jamaican reggae singer MARCIA GRIFFITHS is set to receive the Order of Distinction (commander class) in the country's annual 'National Honours and Awards'.

As reported in the Jamaica Observer, GRIFFITHS will pick up the honour at a ceremony on 20 October at King's House in Kingston.

As part of Black History Month, poet and political activist LINTON KWESI JOHNSON joins CARYL PHILLIPS, novelist and academic, in conversation at the British Library in London.

Both writers have inspired generations with thoughtful and incisive writing looking at notions of identity. 


DENNIS BOVELL to compere Bristol Reggae Explosion Live gig

Reggae musician and producer DENNIS BOVELL will be serving as master of ceremonies at the Bristol Reggae Explosion Live show in Bristol later this month.

The former MATUMBI member went on to become a key figure in the lovers rock and dub genres, but is most widely known for his collaborations with LINTON KWESI JOHNSON



LINTON KWESI JOHNSON, THE DENNIS BOVELL DUB BAND and HOLLIE COOK are among the latest additions to the WOMAD festival in the UK.

LKJ and BOVELL will be getting the festival started on the early bird opening slot on Thursday night (26 July).

The pair have been performing and recording together for more than 20 years, where JOHNSON writes the poems and bass lines, and DENNIS BOVELL produces and arranges the tracks.


Jamaica 50 Festival in London: all-star line-up revealed

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence from the UK, London’s IndigO2 will play host to the Jamaica 50 Festival this summer.

The 11-day event is set to feature an eclectic mix of reggae artists from YELLOWMAN to GYPTIAN, DAMIAN MARLEY to LUCIANO, and SLY AND ROBBIE to BIG YOUTH.
