Jamaican music legend JIMMY CLIFF has walked away with the ‘Best Reggae Album’ Grammy Award for his latest record Rebirth, which is out on UMe/Sunpower.

The 55th annual Grammy awards nominees in the ‘Best Reggae Album’ category can now be revealed.

Constantly touring Jamaican band TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS performed at the legendary 100 Club this week (8 August) as part of the Converse Represent series of shows.

The once in a lifetime gig was about as rammed as it could possibly get and with the air con seemingly packing up mid-show, the bands throughout the night were generating uncomfortable levels of heat.

Pioneering Jamaican band TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS will perform at the 100 Club next month as part of the Converse 'Represent' series of shows and an extensive UK tour.

The intimate show at the famous London venue is part of a wider tour of the UK throughout August taking in gigs in Glasgow, Liverpool and Brighton, among many others.

Top acts added to Sheffield music festival: TOOTS, MACKA B, THE BEAT & THE SELECTER

TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS and a selection of top reggae/ska performers will headline a new music festival in Sheffield later this summer.

Sheftival will take place in the Don Valley Bowl in South Yorkshire on 4 -5 August to celebrate the Olympics and Jamaican independence.

Jamaican reggae group TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS will headline North Yorkshire’s Beacons Festival on 19 August.

The “fresh art and music boutique festival” has been moved to the Funkirk Estate in Carleton (near Skipton) after flooding forced organisers to cancel the event last year.

Jamaica 50 Festival in London: all-star line-up revealed

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence from the UK, London’s IndigO2 will play host to the Jamaica 50 Festival this summer.

The 11-day event is set to feature an eclectic mix of reggae artists from YELLOWMAN to GYPTIAN, DAMIAN MARLEY to LUCIANO, and SLY AND ROBBIE to BIG YOUTH.

Jamaican band TOOTS & THE MAYTALS and London-based group DUB PISTOLS are among the recently announced acts for Devon’s Beautiful Days festival.

The bands will be joining headliners PUBLIC IMAGE LTD, FRANK TURNER and THE LEVELLERS on 17-19 August at Escot Park, near Fairmile.

TOOTS HIBBERT to receive US honour

Jamaican singer Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert, of TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS, will receive an honorary proclamation from the Broward Commission for his contribution to Jamaican music.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the award will be presented during the inaugural 'Icons Of Reggae' show in Lauderhill, Florida.

TOOTS HIBBERT on the road to recovery after throat surgery

Legendary reggae singer FREDERICK ‘TOOTS’ HIBBERT is recuperating well following throat surgery and is expected to get back out on the road again shortly.

Andrea Davis, Hibbert’s agent, told the Sunday Observer that he is in “good health and scheduled to honour several intimate dates within the next three weeks”.
