SMILEY CULTURE died by stabbing himself, jury rules

British reggae artist SMILEY CULTURE, real name David Emmanuel, died after stabbing himself in the chest during a police raid, an inquest jury has ruled.

In March 2011 the singer died at his home in Warlingham, Surrey, during a police drugs investigation.

SMILEY CULTURE 'plunged kitchen knife into own chest', coroner tells jury

The jury at an inquest into the 2011 death of reggae singer David Emmanuel, more popularly known as SMILEY CULTURE, has heard how the he plunged a kitchen knife into his own chest after being arrested at his home.

Coroner Richard Travers explained that a police officer claimed the singer changed “very suddenly and without warning” during the arrest after what had started out as a routine police search.

Pair deny SMILEY CULTURE cocaine plot

Two people accused of conspiring with late reggae singer SMILEY CULTURE in an alleged cocaine plot have appeared in court today. 

Lloyd McCalla and Carlene Wilson both denied conspiring with the artist to supply £400,000 worth of cocaine in 2010.

IPCC on death of SMILEY CULTURE: ‘No crime committed’

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into the police operation during which reggae singer SMILEY CULTURE died has found no evidence of a criminal offence.

The singer (real name David Emmanuel) died from a single stab wound during a police raid at his home on 15 March. 

Following an inquest into his death three days later the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) claimed that he stabbed himself through the heart with a kitchen knife as four police officers carried out a drugs raid.

Police 'off the hook' in SMILEY CULTURE case

Police involved in the raid and subsequent death of British reggae singer SMILEY CULTURE will not be disciplined by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The police watchdog said the raid on his house was "not satisfactory" but criticism of the police involved did not amount to misconduct. 

SMILEY CULTURE, real name David Emmanuel, died in March from a single stab wound to the chest while in police custody during the raid. His family was told the singer stabbed himself while making a cup of tea.
