Earl Gateshead and Daddy Ad of TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM have selected their top ‘summer in the Caribbean’ tracks for The Guardian.

The strictly vinyl mix tries to embrace the truth about summer in the Caribbean, its diversity and the depth of the cultures and experiences that have shaped this tropical paradise.

Legendary producer HARRY J passes away

One of reggae’s top producers in the 1970s, HARRY JOHNSON known popularly as HARRY J, has passed away aged 67 after a long battle with diabetes.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the producer died at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital in his native Westmoreland on 3 April.

THE HEPTONES’ Barry Llewellyn passes away

Jamaican musician BARRINGTON LLEWELLYN, who co-founded reggae vocal group THE HEPTONES, has died aged 64.

Llewellyn passed away on 23 November at Kingston Public Hospital, and as yet no cause of death has been given.

The band was at the forefront of the transition from ska to rocksteady in the 1960s with tracks such as “I've Got A Feeling” and “Fattie Fattie” – the latter was banned by Jamaican radio, resulting in their breakthrough song.

Montreal International Reggae Festival line-up revealed

The organisers of the eighth Montreal International Reggae Festival (MIRF) have announced the full artist line-up.

The popular Canadian festival is set to take place on 20-21 August at the Quays of The Old Port in Montreal.

The headline performers include MAVADO, GYPTIAN, BERES HAMMOND, WAYNE WONDER, SHARON TUCKER, JAH VINCI and THE HEPTONES.
