SPUNGE lines up 10-date UK tour

Tewkesbury ska punk band SPUNGE has revealed a run of shows around the UK in May and June later this year.

The tour includes the following dates:


Guardian drops end of year reggae playlist

Erin MacLeod, writing for The Guardian, has revealed her latest playlist featuring the best reggae, dancehall and soca of 2015.

According to this list Jamaicans still rule the roost with PROTOJE’s “Answer To Your Name”, “Well Done” by KABAKA PYRAMID and a big track by imprisoned dancehall star VYBZ KARTEL.


DREADZONE lines up 2016 UK live dates

UK dub fusion band DREADZONE has revealed a long run of live shows around the UK early next year.

Upcoming dates now include:


John Bradbury of THE SPECIALS passes away

Drummer John “Brad” Bradbury of classic 2Tone ska band THE SPECIALS has passed away at the age of 62.

Bradbury joined THE SPECIALS in 1979 and played with the band up until his death.

The Coventry band tweeted the news: “It is with deep regret that we say goodbye to our great friend, the world's greatest drummer, our beloved Brad. RIP.”


MACKA B lines up another UK live show

Midlands reggae artist MACKA B has lined up another live show in the UK early next year.

Upcoming shows now include:


BLACK UHURU to play Bearded Theory

Jamaican reggae band BLACK UHURU is among the latest additions to play Bearded Theory festival next year.

The ninth Bearded Theory takes place on 26-29 May 2016 at Catton Hall in Derbyshire with weekend tickets priced £97.


THE TOASTERS add more UK shows to tour

Third wave ska pioneers THE TOASTERS have added dates in Glasgow and Redcar to their upcoming touring schedule.

The tour now includes the following dates:


DREADZONE added to Weyfest 2016

British dub fusion band DREADZONE has been added to the Weyfest festival 2016 line-up.

The London group is among the latest additions to the tenth edition of the festival along with top ska bands THE BEAT and BAD MANNERS.

Weyfest takes place on 19-21 August 2016 at the Rural Life Centre in Farnham with super early bird weekend tickets priced at just £80.


Billboard names JOSS STONE reggae artist of the year

English singer JOSS STONE’s seventh album Water For Your Soul was the best-selling modern reggae record of 2015, according to Billboard magazine.

The record, which incorporates elements of reggae and hip-hop, has sold 29,000 copies and spent eight weeks at the top of Billboard’s weekly reggae albums chart.


THE BEAT reveals upcoming UK shows

2Tone ska band THE BEAT has confirmed a long run of UK shows in the coming months.

The 2016 line-up features Ranking Roger and Ranking Junior on vocals with Oscar Harrison on drums, Andy Pearson and Steve Harper on guitars.

Reggae singer PETER BROGGS passes away

Jamaican reggae musician PETER BROGGS, real name Henry James, has passed away after failing to recover from his 2004 stroke.

BROGGS was born in Hanover Parish, Westmoreland, Jamaica and started his music career in the 1970s, releasing several albums including the likes of Progressive Youth and Rastafari Liveth!

In 2009 BROGGS put out two albums called Fire Fe Lucifer and Never Give Up on Jah Warrior.



Affinity Arts Entertainment returns with the annual Mothers’ Day comedy and music showcase in London featuring PETER HUNNIGALE and TIPPA IRIE.

The ‘Touch Of Class’ evening also includes live music from the likes of DON CAMPBELL, OMAR and host STAMINA.



The ‘More Life For 2016’ show featuring TARRUS RILEY, AGENT SASCO and SPICE will hit London in April next year.

The big gig takes place on 30 April 2016 at the O2 Academy in Brixton with tickets priced at £28.50 in advance.

In 2014 TARRUS RILEY released his Love Situation album, a self-proclaimed tribute to the rocksteady era.


DJ DEREK last seen being chased from pub

The family of missing DJ DEREK, real name Derek Serpell-Morris, said they may have come across their biggest lead yet in their search.

It has now been more than five months since the legendary reggae DJ disappeared.

DJ DEREK’s great niece Jennifer Griffiths said that a continued poster campaign in nearby Thornbury had led to a new claim he was chased out of a pub following an altercation about a drink.


Interview: Robin Campbell of UB40

Ahead of UB40’s two upcoming shows with STEEL PULSE, caught up with founding member and guitarist Robin Campbell to find out more about the Midlands reggae connection.

Jet-lagged from a run of shows in the Southern Hemisphere, Campbell explained that as far as he knew, the two bands had never played together.


THE DUALERS line up Indigo at the 02 gig in 2016

Ska and band THE DUALERS will make their triumphant return to Indigo at the 02 for a record-breaking ninth time next year.

THE SKINTS to headline Thames Cruise

London reggae band THE SKINTS will headline a Thames Cruise show as part of the London International Ska Festival 2016.

This intimate and unique show on 26 March 2016 will also feature the legendary DJ DON LETTS and support to be announced soon.

Adult tickets are priced at £25 in advance.


RONI SIZE & TRICKY for 6 Music Festival

Bristol acts RONI SIZE and TRICKY are among the first acts confirmed for the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival next year.

The festival takes place on 12-14 February 2016 at Bristol venues including Motion, Colston Hall, O2 Academy, Basement 45 and the Trinity Centre.


Another UK date added to LEE PERRY tour

The legendary LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY has added a new live date in Leeds to his upcoming UK tour.

The Jamaican musician will play his classic album Super Ape in its entirety on this tour to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Top ska acts added to Rebellion Festival

Ska bands THE SLACKERS, POPES OF CHILLITOWN and SLAGERIJ are among the latest acts revealed to perform at Blackpool’s Rebellion Festival next year.

The big event takes place on 4-7 August 2016 at Blackpool Winter Gardens in Lancashire.

Tickets are priced at £145 and day tickets will be available at a later date.
