HOMETOWN HI-FI added to London Intl Ska Fest

The organisers of the London International Ska Festival have added HOMETOWN HI-FI to the 2016 line-up.

The West London ska band is the latest addition to the big event taking place on 24-27 March 2016 at venues around the capital.

The line-up so far features performances from the likes of JOHNNY OSBOURNE, U-ROY and STRANGER COLE, among many others.

Guardian drops new reggae and soca playlist

The Guardian has issued its latest reggae, dancehall and soca playlist selected by Erin MacLeod.

This month the playlist features a Christmas song from VYBZ KARTEL along with some soca from BENJAI and BUNJI GARLIN.

MADNESS to headline Belladrum 2016

London ska band MADNESS will headline the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in 2016.

The big festival takes place on 4-6 August 2016 at the Belladrum Estate in Beauly, Scotland.

For the second year running there will be an option to buy three-day tickets priced at £137 to include a programme of artists on the main stage on the Thursday night, in addition to the traditional two day tickets.

Four Jamaican acts have been shortlisted in the ‘Best Reggae Album’ category for the 2016 Grammy Awards.

The National Academy of Recording, Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees for the 58th annual Grammys yesterday.

A studio belonging to musician and producer LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY in Switzerland has burned down.

According to a BBC report his equipment, instruments and famous “magic hats” have been destroyed in the fire.

Dancehall singer J CAPRI passes away

Jamaican singjay J CAPRI, who was hospitalised following a car crash last month, has passed away in hospital.

On 23 November the singer, real name Jordan Phillips, was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies in St Andrew with a serious head injury.

Southern California’s THE AGGROLITES have announced a live show in the UK next year.

The reggae gig takes place on 2 May 2016 at The Point in Sunderland and tickets are priced at £12 in advance.

In 2011 THE AGGROLITES put out a studio album called Rugged Road on Young Cub Records.

The Godfathers of ska punk VOODOO GLOW SKULLS have added a show in Brighton to their upcoming tour of the UK.

The Californian band has been spreading the sound of West Coast ska-core since 1988 and will return to the UK and Europe for a quick three week tour..

2Tone ska performer NEVILLE STAPLE of THE SPECIALS has teamed up with Jamaican legend DANDY LIVINGSTONE for a show in London.

Adding to ‘Three generations of ska’ BUSTER SHUFFLE is the main support act on the night.

The show takes place on 22 April 2016 at Under The Bridge in Hammersmith.

Bristol Archive Records has announced its first release of 2016 - The Bristol Roots Explosion compilation which will be available on 4 March 2016.

The vinyl and digital release, distributed by Shellshock/SRD, follows the theme set by The Midlands Roots Explosion.

Early bird tickets priced at £145 are now on sale for WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) 2016.

WOMAD takes place on 28-31 July 2016 at Charlton Park in Wiltshire.
