DAWN PENN & DANDY LIVINGSTONE added to London ska fest

Legendary Jamaican singers DANDY LIVINGSTONE and DAWN PENN have been added to the London International Ska Festival 2012 line-up.

DANDY LIVINGSTONE, real name Robert Thompson, is best known for the song “Rudy A Message To You” as well as “Reggae In Your Jeggae” and “People Get Ready”.

MAVADO lines up UK dates with CHIPMUNK, STYLO G & GAPPY RANKS

Jamaican musician MAVADO has announced two big live shows in the UK, featuring UK rapper CHIPMUNK with support from dancehall artists STYLO G and GAPPY RANKS.

The dates are:

  • 10 Dec - Aston Villa Leisure Centre, Birmingham
  • 11 Dec - O2 Brixton Academy, London

Earlier this year the 'Gully God' released his “Every Gyal” single that was recorded with CHIPMUNK.

SEAN PAUL on the Wendy Williams Show: video available

Jamaican artist SEAN PAUL has performed his single “Got 2 Luv U”, featuring ALEXIS JORDAN, on the Wendy Williams Show in the US.

Williams, who described SEAN PAUL on the show as “one hot ‘coolie’ – that’s what they call a light-skinned Jamaican”, chatted with the star briefly:

WW: “So hot, both of them. It’s been two years SEAN PAUL since we’ve seen you, and a lot has changed, including the Mohawk, we like that. You had the braids, now you’ve got the Mohawk, and you’re back on the scene.

SIZZLA confirms live comeback in 2012

Reggae artist Miguel Orlando Collins, better known as SIZZLA KALONJI, is expected to make a return to the live music circuit in 2012.

According to local reports SIZZLA made the announcement after fake promoters got the live performance rumour mill going with news of an upcoming 'winter tour’.

SIZZLA has also signalled his intention to shoot two new videos for singles from his 65th studio album, The Scriptures.

SINGING MELODY releases new video: ‘Collide’

Shem Music Group has released an official music video for the SINGING MELODY track “Collide”.

The new song will feature on the Jamaican reggae artist’s forthcoming album They Call Me Mr. Melody that is set for release on 17 January 2012 on VP Records.

The new video was shot entirely on location in Kingston, Jamaica, and directed by Asha McHail from Far Eye Films.

DENNIS BROWN gets top Jamaican honour

Yvonne Brown has received a posthumous award for her late husband and ‘Crown Prince of Reggae’ DENNIS BROWN.

BROWN topped the honours list of entertainers yesterday with an Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) for his contribution to Jamaican music.

UK reggae legends UB40 declared bankrupt

The British press is reporting that four members of UB40 have been made bankrupt after the band's record label, DEP International, went under.

A judge at Birmingham County Court declared Brian Travers, Jimmy Brown, Norman Hassan and Terence Oswald (also known as Astro) bankrupt and their details have been listed by the Insolvency Service. 

Tax officers can now seize property over the next year to pay off any outstanding debts.

‘RasTa: A Soul's Journey’ - new film coming soon

A new documentary featuring BOB MARLEY’s eldest grandchild, Donisha Prendergast, is having its world premiere next week and will soon be available on general release.

RasTa: A Soul's Journey’ will show at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (FNC) in Montreal, Canada, on 18 October, with a repeat on 20 October.

The film is an exploration of the world of Rastafari and the inspiration behind BOB MARLEY's music.

VYBZ KARTEL to return to court: 26 October date set

Dancehall deejay VYBZ KARTEL (Adidja Palmer) is scheduled to return to court on 26 October after his bail application was postponed.

The Jamaican artist made his second appearance this week in the Gun Court Division on charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Jamaican music producer and manager CHESTER SYNMOIE has died of heart failure at an airport in Brazil.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Synmoie was accompanying KING STITT on a series of engagements in country when he complained of stomach pains.

KARTEL denied bail; additonal charges levelled at the artist

Jamaican musician VYBZ KARTEL, real name Adidja Palmer, has been denied bail after appearing in court facing a possession of marijuana charge.

According to the Jamaica Observer, a senior magistrate refused his bail application and ordered the deejay to return to court on 10 November.

Tiger Records Jamaica is shortly expected to release the debut album, Stand Up Strong, from rising French reggae artist BAZIL.

The Paris native recently recorded the new record in Jamaica on Kingston-based Tiger Records, which is owned by French producer Romain "Sherkhan" Chiffre.

VYBZ KARTEL pleads ‘not guilty’ on drugs charge

Jamaican dancehall artist VYBZ KARTEL has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to possession of marijuana and has now been remanded in court.

According to the Jamaica Star, the deejay appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Pre-TALISMAN ‘lost’ reggae album: new release date set

Bristol Archive Records will soon release a new ‘lost’ album from REVELATION ROCKERS - the band that went on to form UK reggae stalwarts TALISMAN.

It’s not known what prevented the release back in 1979, however, the long-overdue Jah Praises will finally hit the shelves on 5 March next year.
