New York-based VP Records was founded in 1979 by the late Vincent "Randy" Chin and his wife Patricia, who owned Randy's Records in Kingston as well as the Studio 17 recording studios.

The independent reggae record label is now run by Vincent Chin's sons with the assistance of Patricia.
