TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS live at the 100 Club in London

Constantly touring Jamaican band TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS performed at the legendary 100 Club this week (8 August) as part of the Converse Represent series of shows.

The once in a lifetime gig was about as rammed as it could possibly get and with the air con seemingly packing up mid-show, the bands throughout the night were generating uncomfortable levels of heat.

Singer-songwriter reggae, dancehall and ska were well represented in the run-up to the main attraction, with support slots from NATTY, THE HEATWAVE and the JANICE GRAHAM BAND with TROJAN SOUND SYSTEM DJing between sets.

Here’s a clip of NATTY performing "July" from the night:

TOOTS was brought up on to the stage through the crowd like a boxing champion, and at the age of 66 and just six months after undergoing throat surgery, it’s remarkable that he continues to perform at the top of his game.

As expected he brought the house down at the intimate club with classics such as “Sweet And Dandy”, “Pressure Drop” and “Reggae Got Soul”:

The free summer series of gigs, featuring a total of 45 artists such as NAS and PAUL WELLER, aimed to get fans and artists to “represent their music and celebrate musical diversity” at the longest running (established in 1942) popular music venue in the world.

For those not lucky enough to bag tickets to the show in the online ballot, it was made available through live streaming via the Converse Facebook page.
