Locked up dancehall star VYBZ KARTEL is today (6 July) expected to release his first book 'Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto'.
The singer, real name Adidja Palmer, is facing two separate murder charges; however an official book launch is set to take place across the street from the Horizon Remand Centre in Spanish Town where KARTEL has spent the last few months behind bars.
KARTEL and co-author Michael Dawson completed the manuscript in summer 2011 and the book was officially copyrighted last August in the US.
According to a press release, 'Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto' signals a fight for change in Jamaica and should spark interesting conversations on many topics such as racism and classism, among other things.
As reported in the Jamaica Star the objective of 'Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto' is to bring things that are often hidden by the powers that be to the forefront, using the biggest 'Voice' that the Jamaican ghetto has had in years - the voice of the “notoriously controversial” VYBZ KARTEL.
On the music front check out KARTEL’s new single “Dynamite” off the Dynamite Riddim produced by Head Concussion Records.
Last month POPCAAN and GAZA SLIM released statements shedding light on the Portmore Empire disbanding. POPCAAN finally broke his silence on the rumoured clash with label boss KARTEL and other members of his former crew. Check out the full story here.
KARTEL also features on the latest ReggaeChapter podcast (hosted by RICHIE BLOOD) with BUSTA RHYMES on the track “Wine & Go Down”.
