POPCAAN arrested and fined in Antigua

Jamaican dancehall artist POPCAAN has been arrested and fined for assaulting a police officer in Antigua.

The deejay, real name Andre Sutherland, was arrested and charged after an altercation with a member of the Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force during a live performance at a rally.

According to the Jamaica Observer he was charged with assault, battery, obstructing a police officer in the lawful execution of his duty, and resisting arrest.

He pleaded guilty to all charges.

A member of POPCAAN’s team later told the Jamiaca Observer that the incident was a misunderstanding and that he was defending a fan.

In November last year POPCAAN won a Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Award in the best reggae category.

Back in 2014 he put out a record called Where We Come From.
