ASWAD to perform Gill Scott-Heron tribute

British reggae band ASWAD will pay tribute to revolutionary artist, poet and civil rights activist Gil Scott-Heron at a special concert in Liverpool this summer.

The event, called ‘The Revolution Will Be Live, A Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron’, takes place on 27 August at St George's Hall and also features performances from rapper MOS DEF and a DJ set from CRAIG CHARLES.

The bill also includes local chart toppers THE CHRISTIANS, poet and protégé of Gil’s MALIK & THE OG’S, plus SOPHIA BEN-YOUSEF.

Gil’s son RUMAL RACKLEY and NDABA MANDELA, grandson of the late Nelson Mandela, will be guest of honours.

Tickets are priced at £18 in advance or £16.50 with an NUS card.

In 2009 ASWAD put out its City Lock album on the Rhythm Riders label.
