MARCIA GRIFFITHS awarded Jamaican honour

Queen of reggae MARCIA GRIFFITHS has been given a national award, the Order of Distinction in the rank of commander, at a ceremony in Jamaica.

The awards ceremony took place at Kings House, St Andrew, on National Heroes Day (20 October).

The prestigious award comes as the singer celebrates 50 years in the music industry.

Musicians DWIGHT PINKNEY, BOBBY ELLIS, poet LINTON KWESI JOHNSON, bassist PHIL CHEN of THE VAGABONDS sound system operator WINTON "WEE POW" POWELL and violinist STEVEN WOODHAM were also honoured at the event.
