Reggae legend JOHN HOLT passes away

Jamaican singer and songwriter JOHN HOLT has passed away in a London hospital at the age of 67.

Copeland Forbes, HOLT’s manager, confirmed the death to the Jamaica Observer on 19 October.

“John died at 2:40 am English time. His [John’s] nephew informed of his death”.

The cause of his death has yet to be confirmed.

HOLT was born in the Greenwich Farm area of Kingston and first came to light through the island’s talent show circuit.

He rose to fame in the 1960s as a member of vocal trio THE PARAGONS, releasing tracks like “The Tide is High” and “Man Next Door”.

In the 1970s, as a solo artist, he put out big tracks like “Stick By Me” and his hugely popular covers album 1,000 Volts of Holt.

HOLT’s 1983 album Police In Helicopter was another high point in his 40-plus-album career.

His final live appearance was on 16 August at the One Love festival in Milton Keynes where he was taken ill.
