Baltimore to host BOB MARLEY musical premiere

A new musical about BOB MARLEY will make its world premiere next year in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Center Stage in Baltimore, in collaboration with New York's Public Theater, revealed the ‘Marley’ premiere - a musical about the Jamaican reggae star, written and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah - would take place next year.

As reported in The Baltimore Sun, the new work will close the Center Stage season running from 6 May to 14 June 2015.

British-born Kwei-Armah said: “This will not be a jukebox musical… We're investigating a man and his legacy. There is no place I have travelled - Mexico, New Zealand, Senegal - where I have not heard Bob Marley being played, particularly in the developing world.

"And there is not a week that I do not see someone in a Bob Marley T-shirt,” he said.

Cedella Marley said in a statement: “When it comes to our father's work and legacy, we have always been mindful in selecting the artists with whom we choose to collaborate.

“We are thrilled to be working both with Kwame and with Center Stage to bring part of our father's story to life in a way that has never been done before.”
