Jamaica 50 Festival in London: all-star line-up revealed

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence from the UK, London’s IndigO2 will play host to the Jamaica 50 Festival this summer.

The 11-day event is set to feature an eclectic mix of reggae artists from YELLOWMAN to GYPTIAN, DAMIAN MARLEY to LUCIANO, and SLY AND ROBBIE to BIG YOUTH.

According to the website, “despite being a small island state, Jamaica’s cultural impact on the world and musical legacy vastly outweighs its size as the Jamaica 50 line-up testifies.”

The full line-up is as follows:

  • 26 Jul - DAMIAN MARLEY
  • 25 Jul - LEE "SCRATCH" PERRY and JUNIOR MURVIN
  • 28 Jul - TAPPA ZUKIE, BIG YOUTH, YELLOWMAN, DENNIS ALCAPONE and WINSTON REEDY
  • 29 Jul - ERNEST RANGLIN, SLY AND ROBBIE and MONTY ALEXANDER
  • 30 Jul - MUTABARUKA, BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH and LINTON KWESI JOHNSON
  • 31 Jul - JOHN HOLT, THE MIGHTY DIAMONDS and LEROY HEPTONES SIBBLES
  • 1 Aug - FREDDIE MCGREGOR and LUCIANO
  • 2 Aug - GYPTIAN and MAXI PRIEST
  • 3 Aug - TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS
  • 4 Aug - HORACE ANDY, JOHNNY CLARKE and MICHAEL PROPHET

The celebrations don’t end there; with the Bob Marley Exhibition at the BME (10 July - 20 August) and Jamaican film screenings at Cineworld (25 July - 5 August).
