TOOTS HIBBERT attacker jailed for six months

William C. Lewis, the man who threw a vodka bottle at FREDERICK “TOOTS” HIBBERT during a live performance in Virginia USA, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS frontman was performing at the Dominion Riverrock festival back in May when the bottle-throwing incident occurred.

The drunken act happened during a rendition of “Country Roads” and caused a serious head injury to the singer, resulting in the band scrapping all touring commitments for the rest of the year.

As reported in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Hibbert had asked a judge not to put Lewis in jail.

He wrote in a letter: “He is a young man, and I have heard what happens to young men in jail...My own pain and suffering would be increased substantially knowing that this young man would face that prospect.”

Despite this, prosecutor Anne Lloyd argued that the seriousness of the defendant’s actions warranted a one-year jail term.

Judge Margaret P. Spencer ordered Lewis to serve six months in jail.

Hibbert also added in the letter that he continues to suffer from extreme anxiety, memory loss, headaches, dizziness and most sadly of all, a fear of crowds and performing

“I am not able to write songs as I did before or remember the lyrics of songs that I wrote and have performed for decades,” the 71-year-old said.

Back in June Hibbert also filed a US$21m civil lawsuit against Lewis.
