TOOTS HIBBERT sues Virginia concert organisers

Jamaican legend Frederick “Toots” Hibbert has filed a £13.5m (US$20m) negligence lawsuit against Dominion Riverrock festival sponsors Richmond Sports Backers and Venture Richmond.

On 18 May the TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS singer was hit in the head with a vodka bottle during the festival appearance in Richmond, Virginia.

Hibbert has already filed a £13m (US$21m) lawsuit against William Connor Lewis who is charged with malicious wounding in the incident. He faces trial in Richmond Circuit Court on 12 December.

The singer is suing the concert organisers for negligence in their arrangements for security and alcoholic beverage sales.

The lawsuit says Venture Richmond and Sports Backers did not do their duty as festival organisers in preventing Lewis from either bringing the bottle into the festival or taking it from one of the vendors on the site.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, it also names Strawberry Street Event and Concessions, the concessionaire that operated the liquor stall from which Venture Richmond believes the bottle was taken as the vendor shut down for the night, and Regional Marketing Concepts Inc., which provided security for the show.

Venture Richmond has objected to the allegation of negligence, saying the teen charged is solely responsible.
