TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS pull out of WOMAD; Singer advised to cancel all summer shows

The inimitable TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS have been forced to withdraw from the UK’s WOMAD festival due to a head injury sustained by frontman FREDERICK “TOOTS” HIBBERT last month in the US.

Hibbert is still undergoing treatment and his doctors have advised that he cancel all his summer UK tour dates.

His management released the following message:

“This regrettable decision was made by the medical team realizing that any performances at this time could seriously compromise Toots’ health. Toots thanks all of his fans worldwide who have expressed their concern and sent their messages and prayers in emails and postings on facebook. Toots’ health is the priority and therefore while the cancellation is regrettable, we trust you understand it.”

WOMAD, which takes place on 25-28 July in Wiltshire, will be announcing an “exciting new addition” to the line-up soon.

On 18 May Hibbert was hit in the head with a vodka bottle while he performed at the Dominion Riverrock festival in Virginia. He has since suffered permanent scarring, which left him “disoriented and grievously injured in body and mind.”

As a result of his injury he then had to cancel the remaining shows on his US tour, and has been unable to record, compose or make public appearances.

Over the weekend it was widely reported that the singer had filed a £13m law suit against the onstage attacker.
