TOOTS HIBBERT files £13m law suit against onstage attacker

Jamaican musician FREDERICK “TOOTS” HIBBERT is suing the man accused of throwing a bottle at him during a concert in Virginia, USA.

The TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS singer filed a lawsuit in Richmond Circuit Court against William C. Lewis, who is charged with “felony malicious wounding”.

As reported in the Richmond Times-DispatchHibbert is seeking £638,000 (US$1m) in compensatory damages and £12.7m (US$20m) in punitive damages.

Hibbert was hit in the head with a vodka bottle while he performed at the Dominion Riverrock festival on 18 May. He has since suffered permanent scarring, which left him “disoriented and grievously injured in body and mind.”

As a result of his injury he then had to cancel the remaining shows on his US tour, and has been unable to record, compose or make public appearances.

The malicious wounding charge will go before a jury on 1 July.
