TOOTS HIBBERT cancels remaining US shows

Jamaican reggae legend FREDERICK “TOOTS” HIBBERT, the main man of TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS, has cancelled the remaining dates on his US tour after being injured at a concert last week.

The singer returned home to Jamaica on Tuesday (28 May) after getting struck on the head with a glass vodka bottle, thrown at him by an audience member during a show in Richmond, Virginia.

Hibbert regrets the decision to pan the remaining shows, but is still undergoing treatment and wishes to focus on recovery.

Police have charged a 19-year-old man, believed to be William C. Lewis, with aggravated assault.

The following acoustic US dates have been cancelled:

  • 29 May - Rams Head - Annapolis, MD
  • 30 May - State Theatre - Ithaca, NY
  • 31 May - South Orange Performing Arts Center - South Orange, NJ
  • 01 June - Infinity Hall - Norfolk, CT
  • 02 June - Beachcomber - Wellfleet, MA

Here’s the press release from Hibbert's management:

“Toots & the Maytals’ Toots Hibbert is reluctantly canceling the balance of his US acoustic concert tour due to continuing medical issues stemming from the bottle throwing incident on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Riverrock Concert in Richmond, Virginia when he was struck in the head by a large vodka bottle thrown at him by an audience member while performing. The blow to his head necessitated his being rushed to a local hospital for initial evaluation and treatment. Since that time, Toots has sought additional medical treatment while trying to complete his tour given his medical condition.

“All the concerts on this tour which have been cancelled, will be rescheduled for later in the year after Toots has been given a clean bill of health from his doctors. Toots regrets having to disappoint any of his fans but this serious head injury requires he return home to attend to his medical issues. In that Toots is still undergoing tests and treatment, no definite date for the continuation of touring can be determined as of today. Toots appreciates all of the well wishes and support from his fans and looks forward to performing for them again soon.”
