Jamaican musician VYBZ KARTEL, real name Adidja Palmer, has been denied bail after appearing in court facing a possession of marijuana charge.
According to the Jamaica Observer, a senior magistrate refused his bail application and ordered the deejay to return to court on 10 November.
The application was rejected on the basis that Palmer is still facing charges of murder, conspiracy and illegal possession of a firearm, for which he is scheduled to appear in court today.
Chris Tavares-Finson, one of Palmer’s lawyers, told the Observer:
"As far as we are concerned, if they want to go to trial with it, we are ready. We have all the statements; somebody has already pleaded guilty and we don't see an issue as far as Mr Palmer is concerned"
Police arrested Palmer nearly two weeks ago at a New Kingston hotel where 4.3 ounces of weed was found.
The Observer is also reporting that additional murder charges may be levelled at the Jamaican artist.
A source has told the paper that Palmer is being investigated for his role in the double murder of two men in Portmore, St Catherine earlier this year.
